PARVATHIPURAM-MANYAM: Parvathipuram Municipal Chairperson Bonu Rajeswari on Saturday lodged a complaint with District Superintendent of Police (SP) SV Madhava Reddy, accusing MLA Bonela Vijayachandra of using abusive language and causing mental anguish while performing her duties. She also alleged that Parvathipuram police entered the Council budget meeting and dragged YSRCP councillors on the directions of MLA Vijayachandra. She also accused Municipal Commissioner Venkateswarlu of sending his staff to her house for signatures on the council agenda after 11 pm. Speaking to the media, Bonu Rajeswari said, “MLA Vijayachandra along with several TDP leaders created utter chaos in the meeting abusing the YSRCP councillors. Later, he used abusive language and called me a psycho. Commissioner Venkateswarlu is also harassing me by sending his staff to take signatures on the council agenda after 11 pm. The duo used offensive and filthy language on me, similar to how MLA Vijayachandra abused MRO Y Jayalaxmi in a WhatsApp call. I appeal to the SP and government to take necessary action against the MLA and commissioner.”

 Salur police in Parvathipuram-Manyam district on Friday booked Bandipu Satish, an outsourcing Public Relations Officer attached to Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani, on charges of cheating and sexual harassment. The action came after a 39-year-old woman, who lost her husband during Covid-19, accused him of exploiting her both sexually and financially on the pretext of securing a compassionate appointment. The woman reportedly paid Satish at least Rs 5 lakh, believing it would be handed over to senior officials to process her appointment. She later learnt that no such payment had been made, even though she eventually secured a post as an office subordinate in the Education Department. By then, Satish had joined the minister’s office as an outsourced PRO under the newly elected TDP-led NDA government. When she confronted him about the money, Satish allegedly threatened her, invoking the name of Minister Sandhya Rani and the police. The woman staged a protest in front of the district police office in Parvathipuram, alleging inordinate delay by the Salur police and indifference from the minister’s office. Salur police registered a case.

Education officials have clarified that a video showing students dancing on a stage, which went viral on social media, was part of a farewell function at the Neelakanthapuram Tribal Ashram School in Parvathipuram Manyam district and did not involve any outside women, as claimed online. The video, which circulated widely on social media platforms, led to allegations that women from outside the school had participated in a dance programme at the tribal school. However, deputy director of tribal welfare Vijay Shaanti dismissed these claims.

Parvatipuram-Manyam District Superintendent of Police S. V. Madhava Reddy said that ganja smuggling and its usage would be viewed seriously since the government is to make the district free from all narcotics.

The Andhra Pradesh Police had established the outpost on Saturday following recent confrontations between tribals and Odisha officials in the disputed Kotia villages. On Sunday, a team of Odisha officials led by a special officer of additional judicial magistrate rank visited the village and removed the temporary tents erected by the Parvathipuram-Manyam police. The officials later returned to Kotia after warning Andhra Pradesh police personnel against setting up the out-post again. Following the incident, the Parvathipuram-Manyam district administration deployed additional police personnel at Eguva Simbi village to provide security to residents and boost the confidence of the out-post staff. The situation remains tense in the disputed Kotia villages amid continuing friction between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha officials over the police out-post. Speaking to TNIE, Kotia Circle Inspector Kranthi Kumar said residents of Eguva Simbi had been facing harassment from Odisha officials for the past few days, prompting the establishment of the out-post on the directions of higher authorities. “Odisha officials asked us to remove the out-post, but we told them we have the right to establish it as per the Supreme Court verdict on the disputed Kotia villages,” he said. The CI clarified that the temporary tents were later shifted from the roadside to a nearby house to avoid inconvenience to commuters. “We will continue the police out-post in accordance with court orders despite objections from Odisha officials,” he added.
